2023 STMSPL PLAYOFF CENTRAL
The 2023 St. Thomas Men’s Slo-Pitch League Playoffs will start on Monday, August 14th, with 21 teams competing across three divisions. The Playoffs will consist of 3 rounds with 9 Quarter-Final Series opening the Brackets (see below). The Quarter and Semi-Final series will each be a best of 3, while the Playoff Championship series will feature a best of 5 format, with the Champion being declared following a trio of
victories.
St. Thomas Nissan will look to defend their Division 1 Championship and will most likely enter the playoffs as the number 2 seed- dependent upon the outcome of a re-scheduled pair of games on Monday night between the Thunder and Tropics. Current top-ranked club Thunder will begin the playoffs as the favourite, looking to avenge their 2022 finals loss to Nissan. The Railway City Royals round out the top 3 and could break up the 2022 finals reunion with a strong playoff push. Upper Deck, Moonlight Painters, and the Tropics have also shown that they can compete and could string together enough wins to overcome the divisional favourites.
In Division 2, Triple Bogey Brewing will attempt to add to their 2022 Division 3 title win, entering the bracket as the top seed. The Blue Balls won both the Regular Season and Playoff titles in 2022. The Old A’s join Triple Bogey in the Semi-finals, with both teams earning an opening round bye. The opening round will feature a pair of extremely close matchups with #3 Tilco Smokin Aces facing the #6 Redeye Rallybotz and #4 Monster Dawgs battling the #5 Reapers. Each regular season series saw each team win multiple games head-to-head.
The Division 3 favourites, Hickory Dickory Decks earned the only Quarter-Final Bye in their Division and
will look to be joined by 3 clubs by the end of the Week. The Mutants and Reds pose a threat to the Decks, but would not face the top squad until after potentially having faced each other in the Semis. The hottest team in the division, the Marlins, enter the playoffs on an 8-game winning streak. If they can get by the Tailgators in round 1, they could pose a legit challenge to #1 squad.
